Finding family through fellowship

Before joining our small group, we came to Mass at St. Ignatius every Sunday. We felt welcomed, but we didn’t really know anyone—and no one really knew us. It was hard to meet people, and we often felt like we were alone in living out our faith as a family. We didn’t have other young couples around us—people with kids who were also committed to following Jesus. There was no one to share with, journey with, or ask for advice.

When we were first invited to join a small group, we were hesitant. We wanted that kind of fellowship, but life was already busy, and we weren’t sure if we could commit to one more thing. But we decided to give it a shot, and honestly, it’s been one of the best decisions we’ve made since moving to Montreal.

Every couple of weeks, we get together with our group, and over time, they have become some of our closest friends. We finally had people to walk with—friends who understood our struggles, encouraged us, and helped us grow in holiness. It made church feel like home.

This year, we were overjoyed to discover we were pregnant, and our small group was there for us every step of the way. They prayed for us, supported us, and walked with us through all the ups and downs. When our son was born, it just felt right to ask a couple from our group to be his godparents because at this point, they’re more than just friends—they’re family.

This small group has been one of the greatest blessings in our lives. It’s given us a real community, a sense of belonging, and people to share life with as we raise our family in the faith. We can’t imagine doing this without them.
