Details:

At IgNation we want to offer opportunities to put our hands into the service of others. We call these days “Service Days” Our next opportunity involves helping St. Raymond Community Centre in NDG and there are 2 ways for you to get involved!

1. We’ll be collecting gently used clothes and shoes that will be donated to the St. Raymond  Annual Free Store. If you are free for a few minutes after the 10 am Mass on May 12 and 19, come help collect donations from fellow parishioners. Additionally, you can collect items from your friends and neighbours that can be donated to the event!

2. Participate in the event on May 25 from 11 am  – 3 pm. You can help people pick out items they like, help run activities for younger kids or sell popcorn to help raise money for the centre.

This activity is open to everyone, so if parents and/or friends of the participants want to come they are more than welcome. We just need them to register so we know who is coming. If that is the case, when registering just click on “I’m a friend or relative” in the level section.

A life of virtue

Today we start going deeper into our faith and the desire to know God personally. After this point, we will be using a new series to talk about the topics, and they will be considered preparation for sacraments for those who will receive them.

The questions we will be asking are:

  • Can you share a personal experience where you witnessed someone’s selfless efforts to support another person, and how it changed or inspired you?
  • How have you experienced personal growth through acts of kindness or sacrifice for others?
  • The script discusses the challenges involved in making significant changes for the benefit of others. Can you share an area in your life where you feel called to make a change or learn a new skill to better serve those around you?
  • How does the concept of the Trinity, as discussed in the script, impact your understanding of God’s nature and the importance of relationships in your life?
  • Can you think of a specific habit in your life that has influenced your moral choices? How did it impact your relationship with God?
How do virtues play a role in shaping your character and guiding your actions as a Catholic?
  • The discussion of virtues implies a journey of growth and development. Can you share a personal experience where you felt a noticeable change in your ability to choose the good, and how did it impact your relationship with God?

A life of Virtue

Today we start going deeper into our faith and the desire to know God personally. After this point, we will be using a new series to talk about the topics, and they will be considered preparation for sacraments for those who will receive them.

The questions we will be asking are:

  • Why do you think many people are willing to work hard to build up their physical strength but not the inner strength of their will? Which do you think is easier?
  • How does the world define freedom? How does thinking of freedom as “doing whatever you want” actually lead to the opposite of true freedom?
  • How can you grow spiritually stronger? What are some habits and mindsets that you think you need to address?
  • Why do you think love is considered the greatest of all the virtues?
What is the difference between the human virtues and the theological virtues?
  • How can the practice of virtue make someone more successful in life and better at relationships with others?
  • Vices can seem like “fun,” temporarily. However, in the long run, such behaviors make people very unattractive and unpleasant to be around. Why is that?
  • How do we grow in a virtue? Why is it important to develop virtuous habits instead of just avoiding vice?
What are some ways we can help each other to grow in virtue?

Weekly
Challenge

Every week, group members accept a personal challenge to apply what was discussed to their day-to-day lives.

This week:

  • Get a spiritual workout. Spend some time prayerfully reflecting on which vice underlies many of your bad choices or tendencies. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you, and don’t beat yourself up while doing it! Then think of the virtue that opposes that vice and two specific things you can do to grow stronger in that virtue. Do it!
  • Become a volunteer in any of the ministries in your church.
  • Choose a saint to partner with.

Parents – Ask your kids about this challenge during dinner time and ask if they did it.
